My name is Mike. The only reason you would be reading my blog is if you're a relative (Hi, mom), friend, or acquaintance that wants to keep tabs on what Shayla and I are doing. Well, this is not meant to update you on our day-to-day, but I'm sure a little of that will sneak in. I'm writing this blog with no purpose.
So why would anyone read this?
I've got a lot of catching up to do in the blogging world. To be honest, I've never even read a blog. All I know about blogs is that they didn't exist (at least under the name "blog") in 2003, and were commonplace in 2005. The only reason I know that is because when I got home from my mission (yes, I just said "my mission." I know somewhere, sometime, someone said that we shouldn't say "my" mission because it is really "the Lord's mission," which I agree with, but there is just no other way to say it in English without sounding awkward, like you're deliberately trying to not say "my mission") in 2005 I kept hearing the word "blog" and didn't know what it meant. In the back of my mind I thought maybe it was a strain of the flu, but never buckled down and researched it. On a trip to Spokane I mentioned this word to my grandpa and he explained it to me. I'm glad we have grandparents around to explain new technology to us kids. My first thought was, "Why would anyone want to read that?" If I wanted to read whatever garbage some random person is thinking about a particular subject I'll read Wikipedia. Or watch CNN (although I prefer to get my political propaganda from Newsweek, which is the only magazine in the lunchroom at work. I think it's a conspiracy by the one liberal in our building to slowly convert us all to socialism).
So why would anyone read this?
I'm adamantly anti-social-networking (in the form of Facebook and similar sites) because I'm afraid of the people who might find me that I hoped never to think about again. I considered using this blog to keep a running list of those people, at least on a sidebar, but my better judgement (whom I've nicknamed "Shayla") stepped in.
So why would anyone read this?
Today at work I divided every number from 1 to 316 by 316, one by one, and typed the result into a CAD program. It took about 3 hours. And explaining why I had to do it might be even more boring than actually doing it.
I'll keep posting useless information like that and maybe try to get Shayla to put in a few entries as well.
